The Story of Igor’s Puppies
A group of cycling “nuts” came together a couple of weeks ago to discuss what to do with Igoor’s stolen bikes. For those not in the know, The thousands of Igor’s bikes were donated to a few groups around Ontario. The bulk of the bikes went to the Cabbagetown Youth Club. Most of the bikes were stored in the basement of an apartment building, while others were scattered around town in various locations.
Basically the Ontario Government had dumped the bikes on CYC without any funding to put them back together. They were delegated to the ash bin of history. Igor showed up and bragged that he was the only ones who could put them back together.
We decided to make him eat his words. We got together for the first time at UofT and talked about what to do with the bikes. We decided that we would form a group of volunteers to sort out and fix the bikes that could be fixed and strip and use the ones that could not be saved.
We formed our groups and called it FUCKIGOR, which stands for Fixing Up Cycles For Kids In the Greater Ontario Region. For all press releases we call ourselves BICYCLE, Bicycle Initiative for Cabbagetown Youth Centre something something, cant remember what the L or the E stands for but it sounds nicer, even though we are secretly still going by the first name.
This week we gathered at the storage area and began the job of sorting out a thousand bikes. Today we finished the job. Now that the sorting is done, the hard part comes. Finding the appropriate funding to put these back together.
