A Pirate for a Day!!!
I took the day off from campaigning and fixing bikes to pedal up to 4900 Yonge Street to talk with people about riding bikes. My Friends at the Bike Pirates get requests from groups to talk with them about bike maintenance and such. So when I heard they needed someone to go with Leah to Yonge and the top of the world I was all over it.
The top pirate thought it would be best to take the subway, but I had just put the new cargo bike on the road and was keen to take it for an extended cruise. We loaded it up and headed North.
The organization was the Federal government or a Bicycle User Group. About ten people took time out of their busy lunch to listen to us explain to them some basic tune-up and maintenance tips.
I was surprised to hear that people commuted quite a distance to get to work. One woman rode from Richmond Hill and another rode from Lansdowne and Queen. I was impressed.
There was a lot of interest and I was even able to fix one of the participants shifters. All in all a great day and a wonderful ride.
